The course is also available at various times in retreat, workshop, and seminar settings. It is offered through private session by request or in smaller segments. Individual objectives may be investigated more deeply or in smaller segments online, in retreats, or in additional private sessions. An introductory session is also available as a computer based course Going Beyond What You Believe to be True with optional teacher support and as Continuing Education.

The course includes important elements from both ancient and contemporary research-based teachings: Insight Meditation, Vipassana, Contemplative Prayer, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

The student begins to deepen intimate experience of his/her own mind and body processes. Through this awareness s/he enriches previous experience, training, and professional skills by developing strength in observing processes, in disidentifying with content, and in awareness of unfolding processes at increasingly subtle levels. Through this capacity, one can intentionally foster qualities of mind conducive to healing. The mental health professional has the essential foundational skills necessary for using mindfulness in clinical applications and sharing skills directly with clients.

Participants receive an individual assessment, a measure used by Fortune 500 companies to develop executive skills. The results, combined with mindfulness and insight instruction and individual consultation provide a clear and accurate picture of individual stressors and stress behaviors, a foundation for skillful living, and a basis for becoming a conscious creative force in one’s own life. With this information and support participants will further clarify a life vision in line with the heart's deepest desire.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
  • Observe, identify, and foster skillful mind states (mind qualities conducive to mental health)
  • Develop willingness to challenge one’s own perspective and implement means for doing so
  • Become experientially familiar with common qualities of mind underlying all experience
  • Work with qualities of attention to increase skillful attention and concentration in all life circumstances
  • Recognize qualities of mind in one’s own experience that interfere with clarity of mind
  • Come to an open and accepting stance toward all that arises in one’s experience
  • Facilitate early interventions by recognizing volitional opportunity at increasingly earlier stages in the process
Ongoing support is available in private sessions, but also through public groups offered for donations through Insight Mediation Community Houston.

Segments of the Insight and Mindfulness course are available in group and individual sessions and in several formats in person, online, or via Skype: with practice books, in digital formats as an email course, and as a computer based meditation course on CD-ROM.
